Nestled in the quaint village of Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, Icehotel 35 is nothing short of a magical experience. Each year, this unique hotel is reborn, transforming itself into a breathtaking gallery made entirely of ice and snow. For the 2024/2025 season, Icehotel 35 promises an extraordinary showcase of creativity and innovation that will leave you in awe.
At the heart of Icehotel 35 are its 12 stunning art suites. These aren't just rooms; they're immersive art installations, each meticulously designed and hand-carved by talented artists from around the globe. Imagine stepping into "WHOOPS WRONG ROOM!!" and finding a life-sized rhinoceros, or retreating to the serene and cozy ambiance of the "Hideaway" suite. Every suite tells a unique story, intricately crafted from ice and snow to create an unforgettable experience.
The Main Hall and Ceremony Hall of Icehotel 35 are truly magnificent. The Main Hall, with its awe-inspiring "Quasar" design, serves as a stunning backdrop for all sorts of events, from weddings to grand parties. Meanwhile, the Ceremony Hall, adorned with the ethereal beauty of "Gaia's Bloom," offers a magical setting for special ceremonies. Both halls are perfect examples of how ice and snow can be transformed into extraordinary art spaces.
The magic of Icehotel 35 lies not only in its icy walls but in the incredible artistry that brings it to life each year. For the 2024/2025 season, 27 artists from 13 countries converged in Jukkasjärvi to create stunning sculptures and immersive environments. These artists, with their diverse backgrounds and unique visions, transformed blocks of ice into breathtaking works of art.
Among the talented contributors are Jaeyual Lee and Daeho Lee, who designed the "ICE KILN" suite, blending elements of traditional kiln structures with intricate ice carvings. Viktor Tsarski and Wouter Biegelaar teamed up to create the cosmic-themed "Quasar" design for the Main Hall, a space that mesmerizes with its celestial beauty. In the Ceremony Hall, Lisa Lindqvist and Kate Munro's "Gaia's Bloom" suite pays homage to the primordial mother, Gaia, with exquisite floral patterns carved from ice.
Each artist brought their own flair to the hotel. AnnaSofia Mååg's whimsical "WHOOPS WRONG ROOM!!" suite features a life-sized rhinoceros, adding a playful touch to the icy landscape. Pieke Bergmans and Peter de Wit crafted the serene "Hideaway" suite, offering guests a peaceful retreat within the frozen wonderland. Their collective efforts resulted in a truly unique and enchanting experience, making Icehotel 35 a masterpiece of creativity and collaboration.
While the seasonal Icehotel is a sight to behold, Icehotel 365 allows you to enjoy this icy wonderland all year round. Featuring nine art suites, nine deluxe suites, and the fascinating Experience Room, this section of the hotel provides the same level of artistic creativity and attention to detail. The newly added ICEBAR BY ICEHOTEL is an added bonus, offering a cool spot to relax with a drink amidst the icy splendor.
The creation of Icehotel 35 is a collaborative and international effort. Artists from 13 countries come together to bring their visions to life, using the natural ice from the Torne River. Hundreds of artists apply, and the selected few spend weeks in November and December carving their masterpieces. The result is a collection of stunning art pieces that, come spring, melt back into nature, completing the cycle of creation and renewal.
As Icehotel 35 celebrates its 35th anniversary, it continues to push the boundaries of ice art and design. Each year, the international design competition brings fresh and exciting concepts, ensuring that every visit is unique. The commitment to using natural ice and snow remains strong, preserving the tradition while embracing innovation.
